The Closer to Free Ride presented by Bank of America is first-and-foremost a fundraising event. The dollars our riders and volunteers raise will provide essential support for the world-class research and patient care at New England’s most comprehensive cancer center, Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven.

Each rider is required to raise a minimum of $500 to help support Smilow Cancer Hospital. Whether you've never fundraised before or this is your tenth time - we know you can do this and we’re here to help.

First things first, we want to make sure you know that 100% of the money you raise goes directly to Smilow Cancer Hospital and Yale Cancer Center. You can feel confident asking for support from friends and family as every dollar they donate will go directly to patient care and research.

You Can Do This.
  • Though the fundraising minimum is only $500, in 2019 the average Closer to Free Rider raised more than $1,200 using our online tools and tips!
  • The average donation our riders receive is $90. That means that all it takes is just 6 donations to meet the $500 minimum!

  • Once you register you'll gain access to a Participant Dashboard full of tools and resources to help you meet your fundraising goals or manage a team
  • Every participant receives an online fundraising page (set up for you the minute you register!), ready to use emails and social media posts to gather donations.
  • Our Closer to Free Ride Rewards are designed to inspire you to go above and beyond and receive some great benefits in return. Check out our reward levels and see how you can earn custom Closer to Free cycling gear or the opportunity to have your jersey and event materials mailed to you in advance of the ride!
