Ed and Guido's Training Ride Schedule
Guido Wollmann and Ed Barros are our 2013 Closer to Free training ride leaders. They are also the co-captains of our Ride Marshall Team on Ride Day.
Like in previous years, all are welcome to join - riders signed up for Closer To Free as well as riders interested in the cause. The monthly training rides will be grouped into an A, B and C group that differ in distance and speed to cater to beginners as well as to experienced riders. It's a progressive series with increasing distance as the CTF ride day gets closer. The routes will offer a variety of beautiful CT countryside roads, sections of which will be used for the CTF ride as well so these rides are a good way to familiarize oneself with parts of the CTF course. Each group will be led by ride marshals and riders will receive cue sheets.
C group = short distance, easy pace (10-15 mph). Distance range 20-25 miles. Great for new riders, and riders with cruiser, commuter, or mountain bikes.
B group = medium distance, easy-moderate pace (12-16 mph), progressive distance: starting 30-35 miles in April moving up to 50ish miles in August. Road bike suggested.
A group = longer distance, advanced pace (14-19 mph), progressive distance from 50 miles to 70 miles in August. Road bike required.
All of these training rides will depart from The Devil's Gear Bike Shop in New Haven at 8:00 am.

Women's Training Rides
For inexperienced and new riders, Alienne Morrione will be offering women's only training rides. These rides will gradually increase in mileage and will eventually prepare female riders for a century.

Devil's Gear Bike Shop Training Rides
On the second Saturday of every month leading up to the Closer to Free Ride, the Devil's Gear Bike Shop will be hosting clinics and guided rides. the clinics will cover bike maintenance basics such as how to fix a flat, how to lube your chain, how to take off your wheels, etc. Each clinic will be followed by a beginner-friendly ride, starting with an easy 30 minute leisurely April ride and building from there. Rides will also include lessons on how to ride near others and how to safely cycle on city streets. Please RSVP for these training rides to matt@thedevilsgear.com
